NECC: Egg Price Now Stable in West Bengal, but Consumption Low

Fri, 01 Dec 2017

INDIA - Worried over the demand-supply mismatch for eggs, which had jacked up prices even a week back, the state of West Bengal has set an ambitious target of mid-2019 to be self-sufficient in egg production.

However, an official of National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) said the price has now gone down as the supply from outside Bengal has increased.

The Times of India reports that on the other hand, the consumption has gone down since the price is comparatively on the higher side. Middlemen, too, were to be blamed for the price rise, he added.
